Wyse Technology, the globalleader in thin computing, today announced Hidesuke Kawata as President of WyseTechnology K.K. Mr. Kawata brings to Wyse over 24 years experience in theinformation, communications and technology industry in senior managementpositions. At Wyse, Mr. Kawata will lead the effort to meet the growingdemand among Japanese enterprises for more secure, manageable and lower costcomputing options.
"One of the key drivers of thin computing in Japan is the recentgovernment legislation making company directors responsible for the securityof personal information residing on corporate networks," said Mr. Kawata."Wyse thin clients are among the most secure desktop access devices since theyhave no hard drive on which information can be captured and removed from thenetwork."
"Wyse is the market leader in revenue and shipments both globally andregionally in Asia Pacific with nearly 35% of all thin clients shipped in2004," commented Bob O'Donnell, Research VP, Clients and Displays with IDC."We predict the thin client market will grow at a compound annual growth rateof 20.7% from 2005 to 2009, significantly outpacing the overall growth rate ofthe PC market."
Mr. Kawata's appointment further strengthens Wyse's leadership position inthe Asia Pacific region. This announcement follows the recent appointment offormer Oracle and Network Appliance senior executive Andrew Hu as President,Asia Pacific.
"We are seeing significant increases in interest in thin computing andthin clients among CIOs and IT managers around the region," said John Kish,President and CEO of Wyse Technology. "In markets such as Japan, it is ofincreasing importance to enable data and processing to be kept in the networkon secure central servers, rather than on vulnerable desktop or notebook harddrives."
Mr. Kish continued, "The enablers are now in place to make this technologya compelling option for enterprises throughout Japan. Because the necessarybandwidth is pervasive throughout the region today, companies can get all thefunctionality of the PC without the cost and security headaches associatedwith deploying large numbers of desktop and laptop PCs. Furthermore, today'sadvanced remote device management software enables IT administrators tocontrol, manage, and leverage the network very effectively and efficiently."
Industry research from Gartner suggests that using thin clients can resultin up to 41% in overall cost savings, compared with typically managed PCs(1).According to Mr. Kawata, the top IT managers, CFOs and CEOs in Japan arerealizing that this is the time to look at thin computing. "Thin clients arethe ideal solution for transaction and task workers because the data andapplications reside on a central server without the expense and security risksnormally associated with desktop PCs. Thin computing is the right solution fortoday's toughest IT issues and will easily scale to address tomorrow'schallenges too."
