The Terminal Server component of Windows Server 2003 builds on the solid foundation provided by Windows 2000 Server, and includes the new client and protocol capabilities introduced by Windows XP. Terminal Server allows enterprise managers to deliver Windows-based applications to virtually any computing device - including those that cannot run Windows. The enhanced services also reduce the amount of network bandwidth required to access data remotely and an improved client interface makes it even more user-friendly.

Terminal Server in Windows Server 2003 provides new security features that include a security policy editor that streamlines the management of user permissions and helps protect connections between the client and terminal server with 128-bit encryption. The new version also offers greater scalability with load balancing features and provides enhanced support for peripherals like network printers.
